Through Anything, Part 1

Setting: The Nightclub
Date: July 13th, 2011
Time: 1:17 PM PST
(Point of View: Franky)

----------

"C'mon, Franky, dance with me!" Cadence cried from the dance-floor, spinning a bunch of circles around herself.
"How do you not get dizzy?" I asked, getting a little dizzy myself just watching her spin like that.
"Because I'm spotting!" she replied, still spinning.
"What does that mean?"
"It means focusing on one thing and always looking at it while you spin."
"What thing are you looking at?"
"You!"

I grinned, and after a second, she stopped spinning. "Dance with me!"
"Aww, I'm good. I can't dance."
"Yeah, you can! C'mon."
"I'll mix, you dance." I reached for the gray headphones that always sat on the DJ3K table for whoever was mixing. There was a green pair, too, but the gray ones were closer to my reach.

I put them on, then started making a beat on the soundboard. She bounced up and down to the beat for a minute, then started dancing. She was in perfect time, and I was bouncing my head to the music. She really is a great dancer.

As I ended the song, she took a bow. I clapped, smiling.

"Nice. That was awesome," I said.
"Oh, thanks, Franky," she replied.
"Will you sing?" I asked.
"Sing?" She laughed. "If anyone should be singing, it's you."
"C'mon, sing for me."
She sighed. "I don't have a microphone."
I reached for the microphone attached to the DJ table and held it up.
"What do I sing?" she asked.
"Sing...uhmm... I don't know. Just sing something."

She sighed, coming up onstage. "Can I have the headphones?"

I nodded, handing them to her. She took off her own green ones and carefully placed them on the DJ table, putting the gray ones on her head. I went down onto the dance floor to watch her.

"C'mon, I need a song request," she said into the microphone.
"Sing...uh..." I shrugged. "Um, sing 'Teenage Dream'."
She nodded, pulling out a CD. "I gotta mix this so there's no words and sing it at the same time. Jeez."
"If you can actually do that, then that's some serious skill."
"I've done it before."
I smiled. "Okay, let's see it."

She turned on the song and started singing, somehow removing the words from the song as she went. She sounded great, and she got all the way up to the second chorus.

That's when it happened.

At the very end of the second chorus, something happened to the speakers. Cadence jumped and screamed, grabbing at her head. There were a bunch of sparks. She jumped back as a bunch of blue volts jumped out around her body, and I realized she was being zapped.

"CADENCE!" I cried, running up to the table as she collapsed to the ground, pulling off the headphones and breathing heavily. Her whole body looked shaken up, and she was bleeding in a couple places. "Cadence!!!" I cried again, kneeling next to her. I took the now-destroyed microphone and put it on the DJ table.
"Fr-Fr-Franky... Ahhhhhhh..." she said, grabbing at herself. "I c-c-can't m-move..."
"What just happened?" I asked.
"I d-don't know..." She closed her eyes.
"Cadence, try to stay awake. I'm gonna call the Rescue Squad. It's okay. You're okay. Stay with me."

I picked up my phone and dialed 9-1-1, and a guy from the Rescue Squad answered.

"Hello, this is the Rescue Squad. What's your emergency?"
"I- I'm in the Nightclub, and something happened to the speakers, and somebody was shocked. Really bad," I said, in a hurry and panicking.
"Stay right where you are and don't move. We're on our way. Is the victim still conscious?"
I looked at Cadence, who was still conscious but breathing really heavily and obviously trying not to cry out in pain.
"Yes, but I don't think she's gonna stay like that for very long."
"Try to keep her awake the best you can. We're coming."

The guy hung up. I stuffed my phone in my pocket and bent over Cadence. Now she did cry out, because I was off the phone.

"Ahh!" she said.
"Oh, Cadence. Shhh, shhh, shhh. The Rescue Squad are on their way. They're going to help you. Don't worry," I said.
"I th-think I'm g-gonna pass out."
"Try to stay with me." I took her flipper.
"I c-can't br-breathe," she said.
"Deep breaths. Deep, deep breaths. You're alright. I'm here. Help is coming. You're alright."

There was a silence. I was scared, upset, confused, and worried.

"Fr-Franky..." she whispered.
"Is there anything I can do for you?" I asked.
"T-two things. T-t-talk to m-me and d-d-don't leave."
"I won't leave, I swear to you."
"Then t-talk to m-me."
"Talk to you...talk to you about what?"
"I-I don't know, just t-talk to me."

I took a deep breath. "One day, you're gonna get a record deal and be the most famous girl in the whole world. They're gonna love you. You'll have a bunch of hit songs, and win a bunch of awards, and be the number one song on every chart, everywhere. You'll be the best. The best singer, the best dancer, the best DJ... the best."

"Wh-what about you?" she asked.
"Me?" I smiled. "Well, I don't know. Only time will tell."
"W-What about...us? Wh-what's in st-store for us?"
"Us?" I met her eyes. She was still breathing hard, but I put one flipper on her cheek and held hers with the other. "Us. Well, someday, when we're older, we'll get married. We'll be like that cute couple that everyone loves. I'll be there for you, always. Through anything."
She smiled faintly. "Fr-Franky, I-I-I...." She took a huge breath. "I..."
"You what?"
"I..." She closed her eyes slowly and went unconscious.

Oh, no!

"Oh, no, Cadence, wake up. Stay with me. Please," I said.
It was no use. There was no waking her up now.

I waited there in panic for a minute, then five Rescue Squad members burst through the door, holding their kits and one particularly big bag.

"Up here!" I called.

They hurried over to me. The lime-green one in the group knelt over Cadence. "When did she go unconscious?"
"About one minute ago."
"What exactly happened?" he asked, taking a stethoscope out of his kit and taking her pulse.
"Well, she was doing something up here, and something happened to make her get zapped. She fell back, and then passed out."
"Okay." He nodded. "She has a pulse but she's not breathing. Let's take her to the hospital."
"Can I come?" I asked.
He looked at me as his crew mates started preparing a stretcher that was in the big bag. "Are you a relative?"
I shook my head. "No."
"Then you can come, but you can't be in the room. Do you know any relatives?"
"No. I mean, I do, but her father's always away and her mother's been dead for years."
"Okay. We're teleporting there." He took out a Spy Phone and hit a button, and we were at the hospital.

This is sure a screwed-up day...
